The Family Next Door

The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth

This was my first attempt at listening to an audio book, as in the past they have never appealed to me. It would now seem that I am a convert, as was able to get other things done while listening, and my knitting is coming along nicely.

The story follows neighbours of Pleasant Court, a well-to-do, family friendly street in Melbourne. Essie, a mother of two struggling with motherhood. Ange, a organized, almost controlled obsessed mother of two boys. Fran, very composed mother of two girls, exercise freak and the new mysterious neighbour, Isabelle, single and childless.

The story is told in each of the neighbours perspectives, and we soon begin to see that nothing is ever as it seems from the outside. Every household has its own secrets.

Easy to listen to and follow, (even with thousands of family interruptions), and looked forward to every chapter.

Without A Doubt

Without a Doubt by Fleur McDonald

This story combines the difficulties of the demands of a police career and family life with the harshness of the Australian outback. You can almost feel the ground move and taste the dust as the cattle get mustered. As Dave takes on the biggest challenge of his career you watch his character evolve and travel with him into danger. No romance in this Australian outback story but plenty of action and suspense.
