April: 100 Years Ago vs Today

April 2020 is starting to feel a little like déjà vu! An excerpt from the newspaper in 1920 reveals....

While perusing Papers Past, Linda found an article which revealed a case of déjà vu!

The Lyttelton Times was writing about the effects of the 1918 Influenza during April of 1920. It even includes details about the Waimakariri District!

It might be interesting for students to note that Rangiora Borough School closed then too. Thankfully, this time in 2020, in a preventative manner.

These two situations reveal the apparently circular nature of historic events. It also shows how interesting flicking through these historic newspapers can be!

Why don't you take a look through Papers Past and see what you can find? It's also fascinating to see the size of the articles - don't think they had a zoom function back then! Might be time to get out the old magnifying glass...
