The Chamber Gallery - Rangiora Library
The Chamber currently houses the Waimakariri public gallery, The Chamber Gallery.
Exhibitions are the initiative of the Waimakariri Community Arts Council and have been running since 1997. The Gallery operates on the principle of exhibiting art works of merit of diverse media to a high exhibition standard for the benefit of the local public.
Exhibitions are primarily sourced from local artists, though national and international exhibitions are also sought. There are ten to twelve exhibitions per year.
The exhibition programme is financially supported by the Waimakariri District Council and by public donations.
Enquiries on exhibiting can be made at the library desk.
The gallery also is the venue for the WCAC music programme.
Current Status of the Chamber Gallery
The Chamber Gallery and surrounding area (meeting room, Citizens Advice Bureau, parenting room and one of the library's public toilets) are closed until mid-2012 while strengthening work is carried out.
This partial closure does not affect the safety of the rest of the library building, which was built in 1996. The library is open for business as usual and enjoying high levels of use by the public.
