Summer Reading Programme for Children

The libraries have completed the summer reading programme for children. This year we enrolled 150 children across our three libraries, and talked to each of them four times as they came in to tell us about what they had been reading. At every report-in the children receive a small incentive gift, and on Saturday 28 January we had the finale party, with certificate presentations, Bubbles the clown and morning tea.

The feedback was really positive for this programme. Parents say it encourages their children to read during the summer holidays, and there is certainly a buzz in the libraries on report-in days. It is a positive experience for the children and the staff, and an opportunity for us to promote all the wonderful children’s books we have in the library. All year we get cheerful greetings from children we have talked to during the programme.

The summer reading programme is supported by Waimakariri District Libraries and Friends of the Library.
