Books for Babies

Reading to babies is a great way to develop a loving relationship with your baby. A few minutes of reading aloud to your baby every day will help them grow into confident learners. Babies will learn quickly how books work and will be keen to hold books and turn pages for themselves. They will develop good listening and language skills useful for life-long learning.

Point to pictures and talk about what they are with rhythm, rhyme and repetition.       

Look for books with:

• Bright colours
• Contrasting colours, like black and white
• Books about things babies see around them every day like family, animals or food
• Board books
• Books with rhymes or lullabies
• Different textures like feel and touch books, flaps, holes.
