Newspapers

We receive a number of major New Zealand daily newspapers and local newspapers. For information on which papers we receive, where they are held and the frequency just follow this link.

We do not hold any international newspapers but many may be accessed through Library PressDisplay or through the EBSCO database.

  Library PressDisplay : Read today’s newspapers from around the world. PressDisplay gives you access to over 900 newspapers and magazines from 76 countries and in 39 languages. You can print, email or share articles that interest you. Note: PressDisplay has a rolling 60-day back file. 

 EBSCO : This database is available in the library and on our website. It gives users access to many New Zealand newspapers from about 1997 onwards. 

Note: resources marked with () are restricted to use by our own library users, so you will be asked to provide a library card number and a PIN. If you don't have a PIN, just ask at any of our libraries.

Back copies of the major New Zealand newspapers are retained by the public library of the place of publication i.e. The Dominion Post is retained by the Wellington Public Library.

Historical newspapers are available through the National Library’s Papers Past collection of digitised reproductions of many 19th century New Zealand newspapers. These can be viewed for free on the library’s public Internet or by clicking on the link
above.
