Science Alive presents their popular Science Snippets classes – an hour of Science facts, fun, and hands-on activities. For Ages 5-10.

Rangiora Library Wednesday 2nd August, 3.30-4.30pm, Curious Crystals: 
Investigate a variety of everyday Crystals. Use your scientific skills to observe, predict and examine a variety of everyday crystals. Do they all look the same, or do they have different properties?   Do they react in the same way?  Work in a team to investigate, discuss and discover.

Kaiapoi Library Wednesday 16 August, 3.30-4.30pm, Spy Kids: 
Do you have the skills to become a spy?  Have fun whilst exploring the skills and gadgets required to be a spy. Will you be recognised when you leave, or will your disguise fool everybody that knows you?

Rangiora Library Wednesday 30 August, 3.30-4.30pm, Follow Your Curiosity!: 
Curiosity is a Rover on Mars.  Find out for yourself what it’s like to explore and examine new discoveries.  S.A.M (Sample Analysis  Mars) Use your skills to identify and analyse the properties of unknown rock samples.

Kaiapoi Library Wednesday 13 September, 3.30-4.30pm, Terrific Tui: 
Learn about New Zealand’s endearing endemic birds.  Identify the various features of our native birds and experience what it’s like to have a feeding frenzy with a whole flock of pecking birds!

Science Alive! is a not-for-profit trust, dedicated to educating the public about science and technology within the Canterbury region. Planning is underway for a new science centre.

In the meantime, we continue our important work with outreach programmes and events within the community, like Science Snippets in the Library.
